Wonderful, amazing novel that chronicles a year in the life of a Yankee family in the late 1980s. The characters are excellent, and the details from the time period make it all ring true. This is one of those novels where the main character is the family, like We Were the Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates or The Rotter's Club by Jonathan Coe. My only regret is that I read it in August instead of October; it has a very autumnal feeling, to me. I wish I'd washed it down with a big glass of apple cider.
