This was different than I had expected. It concerns a teacher who witnesses a gruesome attack on his student, and the events that ensue. But for all of the potential melodrama of the storyline, it's a very droll book. I mean that as a compliment. This is my first L'Heureux, and I have a feeling that he's a genius. There's one scene in particular about the spectacle of mass grieving in a high school that is just absolutely spot on. So many heavy issues in this book, and yet it's very readable and compelling and deft. I was very impressed and recommend it highly.
